Paris-Borden common room
Our common room is a bit dirtier today than it was when I took this picture last week, but it is a beautiful common space dirty and clean. Every house has a kitchen and common room, and many have fireplaces (which is so lovely when it snows).
On Sunday nights, each house has “coffee hour,” which is a house meeting to go over announcements, house issues, and our house usually has an...

Winter is great and all but this morning on my way back from the dining hall a tree decided to drop its heavy, snowy burden on my head. Ehm. Walk carefully.
Food Day
Last Sunday was Food Day and The Bennington Sustainable Food Project hosted a warm and toasty gathering in Down Commons. You can check out some photos and read about it here on Bennington’s Environmental Studies blog.

soundwordcolor-deactivated20111 asked: Bennington seems incredible, but I'm such a city person. I also really want to be in New York City because of the theatre opportunities, but there's something about Bennington that seems really right. Do you find yourselves getting off campus often? What's the town of Bennington like? And how's the theatre scene up there?

detenebrate asked: I'd like to offer another response to the "Why can't I take Russian?" question. I am currently a student at Bennington, and I was disappointed with both German and Latin not being offered. As Williams classes conflicted with my schedule, that wasn't an option for me, either. Instead, I worked with a few other German speakers and formed a club that meets weekly to speak in...

Anonymous asked: Hey, so for the most part Bennington looks amazing, but I was really disappointed to see Russian isn't offered, as I've studied it for a year and would like to continue. Is there any way I could work it into my curriculum, from an outside program or something of the sort?

Orange, red, brown and yellow
I spy signs of Fall:
I took my Carhart out out storage
The apples have fallen off the apple trees in front of the houses
The Apple Barn apples in the Cafeteria
Snuggling next to the fireplace in the common room
Crunchy leaf paths
The radiators are turned on in the student rooms
Can’t stop ordering hot open-faced turkey with gravy sandwiches at Papa Pete’s

Food at Bennington
At dinner tonight, there was a table set up to invite students to speak with our head chef, who had menus on hand and ideas to discuss about the food program. He was interested in hearing opinions and suggestions to improve the food based on our desires.
We have napkin notes here, on which students can write comments about the food, and the chefs respond with a note. This is great, but it was...

Anonymous asked: I am absolutely smitten with Bennington. Truly. I am also addicted to this blog. Keep posting! It's a nice distraction from the senior year workload and college apps!
To Stir the Pot
The aphorism goes: The key to humor is timing. Stew (the creator of the Broadway show Passing Strange) demonstrated a reflexive understanding of this in his first ever Bennington performance. By the time I showed up fifteen minutes prior to the official start of the show, he had a small crowd eating out of his hand. He had evidently already played several songs, and shortly launched into another....

Anonymous asked: Can students have a "double concentration" in writing and theater? Is there even a way where one could form the literature concentration so that it is mostly creative writing courses? What about costume design?
Anonymous asked: Are there any restrictions as to what students can't put on their walls or have in their room? Are they allowed to hang pictures using nails, or have candles?? Can we change the curtains or put up wall tapestries/stickers? Thanks so much!
doctorinvertsugar asked: For the student who asked abt composition, my best Benn friend's partner studied music comp at Benn and now he's in a PhD program in NYC, and doing really well, so the Benn education pays off!
Anonymous asked: What are the requirements for writing majors? Do theatre majors have to audition and/or show portfolios?

“I love you like an angry man loves his wife he doesn’t love.” — Heard outside my bedroom window just as my roommate and I were falling asleep.
My roommate: “…WHAT?”
