FWT in India

I hear it’s snowing back home in NJ, but today was sunny and hot in southern India. I’m spending my Field Work Term here at a residential theater school called the Kattaikkuttu Gurukulam. I’ve been teaching English, fundraising, and immersing myself in Kattaikkuttu, a theater form unique to northern, rural Tamil Nadu. The performances last all night in the villages here, and they involve loud choral singing, constant music, twirling dances, and elaborate makeup and costumes. It’s a perfect way to supplement & expand my Plan, which involved theater from the start and has come to focus on the intersection of aesthetics & politics/social life.
