My independent study does not present a lot of exciting photo opportunities. Most of the time, I’m hunched over my laptop drinking my weight in tea or talking on the phone with archaeology/art history/cultural heritage-related peoples. Not super exciting to look at. Which is why I was really excited last week to meet Jason Felch, one half of the authors of Chasing Aphrodite, a book about the scandal over looted antiquities at the Getty Museum. While I was in D.C., I was lucky enough to attend a panel discussion at the National Press Club with authors Felch (who looks like Clark Kent up close) and Ralph Frammolino (who phoned in from Bangladesh), along with former Getty curator Arthur Houghton and the director of the Walters Art Museum, Gary Vikan. The discussion was moderated by James Grimaldi, a Washington Post reporter who took my business card and asked me to keep him updated on my work. (!!!!!) The whole thing was one big nerd-gasm for me. I probably drooled all over Jason when he recognized me from my blog, said he reads it and loved my review of the book, and then said we should meet up later for drinks. The meeting up never actually happened, but that’s ok because HE’S A BIG SHOT REPORTER WHO UNAPOLOGETICALLY CALLS OUT THE MET ON TWITTER AND RECOGNIZED ME FROM MY BLOG.

So in order to highlight just how exciting it was for me to do something this FWT that warranted a photo opportunity, here are some other photos to highlight how very average everything can be in comparison. For example, when I got home to Massachusetts, I decided to organize my books by binder color. I am so serious when I tell you THIS IS THE BEST FWT EVER. EVER.

Also I’m allergic to carrots. Carrots sent me home from D.C. HA.
