What to Bringgg

We just got a great response from a current Bennington student (Thursdaythe12th) about what kind of stuff to bring here with you.

If you’re still curious about packing for next fall, the Admitted Students Facebook is a great place to chat with us and your peers about what to bring and get into the nitty gritty details.

Hi! To add on to the stuff not to bring, bring minimal posters, knick knacks, and general decorations. I remember my first term I brought tons of that stuff because I was scared I wouldn’t feel at home at my room, you won’t believe the amount of stuff you accumulate over the term, especially if your an art student, since you’ll be making things. So bring like 5-10 things from home you absolutely cannot live without. Also it’s good to pack in boxes you want to keep and store your stuff in them during the term. This year packing only took me 2 hours as opposed to 5 because all my stuff was organized and stored in “nice” boxes in my room. at the end of term all I had to do was put a lid on the box and put them in the car. As Kevin said, we have to move out all the time, and this gets very stressful. So the easier you make it on yourself, the less stressed you will be. BRING LIGHTING! Thats important. If you’re going to bring one big decoration thing, make it a lamp. The rooms are not well lit, and many of the colonials don’t even have a light in the room. It’s tempting to bring all your clothes, first make sure you have at least one outfit/shoe option for every kind of weather imaginable (Bennington’s weather changes at the drop of a hat and it doesn’t care what time of year it is). Once you’ve covered that, if its Fall, bring your summer clothes and keep them under your bed or something once it gets cols, and store them in Lester Martin for the Spring. That way you only have to bring a few heavy clothes back with you for the first half of Spring term, and you’re all set on warm weather clothing. Be prepared for mud, rain, and snow! Its better to invest in a solid water proof jacket in lieu of an umbrella. I’ve brought umbrellas before and they end up being torn apart by the wind. Annd… yeah thats all I got.
