As long as your coffee maker doesn’t exceed 1,000 watts or have an “exposed heating element”, you’re more than welcome to have one in your room. Certainly a french press would be allowed. Some house kitchens have coffee makers, but they’re usually appliances someone in the house has sort of donated to the community. The college doesn’t supply all the kitchens with coffee makers.
All that being said, having a coffee maker in your room can seem a bit silly because there are about 1800 different places on campus to get coffee. The Dining Hall (obviously), the Admissions Office (free if you bring your own cup), Student Life (free), the Library and the Bookstore (50 cents I think), the CAPA faculty lounge (not sure if you have to pay), and the Student Center Snack Bar ($1 maybe?). I usually go for the free options. Especially the Admissions office because they have a prime selection of K-Cup flavors.
