POSTAL ANGST Pt. 5
Box of Letters - Wilco
In the last, say, 4 years I don’t think I’ve made a playlist that didn’t have one Wilco song. They are so good! I never tire of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but this ‘postal angst’ thing got me to dig through some of their older stuff — their early albums are definitely worth checking out.

POSTAL ANGST - Pt. 4
Prime example of me getting obsessed with an album five years late and all of my friends telling me that their parents used to listen to it. This happens more than one would hope. I’ve learned to just inform them that their parents have excellent taste in music and then change the subject before they have a chance to say anything else. Regardless, this album goes well with green tea and studies of language acquisition.

So like Jason I’m going to do some shameless self promotion since I’m FINALY releasing an album that is really more of a hodge-podge of things I worked on last term than an album-y album, but the album-y album isn’t happening until the summer, so here is this in the meantime! One of my favorite things about Bennington is that it’s a veritable hotbed of talented folks who I get to collaborate with (hallelujah). The majority of the tracks on the album were recording in the Bennington studio and all of the featured talent came from fellow students. Enjoy! http://rileyskinner.bandcamp.com

FWT is over which kind of makes me want to cry because it was So Awesome to focus on what I actually really want to do after I graduate for 7 weeks. In other words, my sole responsibility was to write and play music. I wrote 15 songs in 7 weeks and I’m not going to lie, I’m really proud of myself. So since sharing is caring…. This is a rough recording of one of the songs, “Line of Sun”. I’ll be re-recording everything over the summer (I hope) and releasing the album in September! As always you can hear more of my stuff at www.rileyskinner.bandcamp.com

Every Tuesday night we have music workshop where faculty and students come together to perform and receive feedback in a constructive and safe environment. Tonight I played my song “Loved Ones” (you can listen to it here or on my website: www.rileyskinner.bandcamp.com) and a new song to be recorded soon, “5 Hours”. I just started collaborating with my friends Jason, Molly and Katie (guitar, cello and back-up vocals respectively) and it’s been great working with such talented people. Have a listen!

Young people all attention give! Last night there was an explosion of folk tradition on campus! Folk tradition explosions are really the only kind of explosions I like, but I like them a lot. A Sacred Harp Singing took place in the Dean Carriage Barn followed immediately by a Contra Dance (put on by John Kirk’s Traditional Music Ensemble). Check out my earlier blog post if you want to hear a recording of us singing! Both Sacred Harp and the Traditional Music Ensemble are regularly offered music classes, but the event drew students from all disciplins and even some faculty and staff! We also got a great crowd from the outside community. Sorry for the dark pictures — they still make smile. Fa so la until next time.
