What's the gap year policy for applicants? — Asked by Anonymous

You can defer up to one year while still keeping any financial aid/scholarship packages no problem (unless your financial situation changes, in which case the aid may change a bit). It’s just a box you check on your intent to enroll form.

If you’re thinking about a gap year, I strongly recommend getting in touch with Sarah, our counselor in charge of gap year stuff at smacabee@bennington.edu

gap wisely.

Okay so right now Bennington is my first choice but I don't know if I want to go there right away... What are your thoughts on gap years? Will differing for a year hurt me in anyway? Lemme know:) — Asked by Anonymous

TAKE A GAP YEAR. IT WON’T HURT YOU. UNLESS YOU GET HURT. PLEASE DON’T GET HURT.

But really. If you have the inclination to take a bit of time before coming here, follow it. Puh-lenty of people take gap years before coming to Bennington, and never seem to have any resulting social/academic/personal problems - quite the opposite usually.

how do i go through the process of asking to take a gap year? (I have been accepted and said I would be attending bennington but part of me really wants to possibly take a gap year...) — Asked by Anonymous

The process is super easy; you just have to check a box off on your Intent to Enroll form, and gap years are accepted unequivocally.

Even if you’re not 100% sure you want to take a gap year, I would definitely recommend contacting Holly, the counselor in charge of gap year stuff, at hkhiel@bennington.edu and just let her know what’s going on. She’ll help you figure it all out.

See you next/nextnext year!
