For those of you keeping score in the Costume Shop All Nighter:

Five movies— Toy Story 3, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Pride and Prejudice, Mamma Mia!, Emma

Two episodes of Law & Order: SVU — Season 11, Hardwired and Users. Love B.D. Wong.

Three friends to keep me company.  One of whom champed it out with me all the way to the morning.

In the costume shop from 7:00 PM April 23 to 7:00 AM April 24.  Three pieces closer to finished.  Still have a lot of work.

Slept from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.  Dinner at 5:00.  Returning to the shop shortly thereafter to pull another long stint.  Things gotta get done.

Feeling good? Yes.  Do I want to go back? Not really.  How many cups of coffee will I consume before this is over? God only knows.

The Beginning of the Costume Shop All-Nighter

I have twelve costumes going into the Senior Dance Concert this coming Friday.

ADD THAT TO THE FACT THAT

I’m a procrastinator

AND YOU GET

Many long nights, and all nighters, in the Costume Shop.  Friends have been keeping me company when they can.  I think a few are stopping by tonight.

We go into Tech at 7:00 on Monday.  That is about 48 hours from when I began this post.  Wish me luck.  I’ll update with pictures in a bit, but for reference, this is me at the beginning of the night, awake and kinda happy:

Let’s see how this goes.

I have Costume Projects in the Green Room in VAPA.  The class which we all call “Sitcom” also meet there.  (The real name has something to do with Collaboration… Creative Collaboration in Writing and Performace. —I had to go to the curriculum. Anyways…—) My guess is that this chalkboard came from one of their collaborative brainstorms.  IN the next seven weeks of term, the class will perform serialized episodes of their “shows” or “sitcoms” (hence the name) in the Downcafe.  Everyone is REALLY looking forward to it.

I found Danny making this in the Sawtell common room.  I thought it was really cool.  Bennington offers a class in instrument making.  Makes me wish I studied music.

All roads lead to Joyce. Or was it Rome?

So, lately the phrase “all roads lead back to Joyce,” has been coming up in my  daily conversation.  (He and his work have infiltrated my life.  I’m ok with it.  I love James Joyce, but that’s not what this is about…)  It just got me thinking, yet again,  about how connected everything can be, especially here.

Let me just walk you through this particular web of connections…

I drew a diagram to help…

LITERATURE CLASS: I am reading Ulysses for class.  In the first episode, one of the characters quotes the poet Swinburne (he calls him “Algy.”)  I’d never read Swinburne, so I looked up a few of his poems.  They’re quite good — they have A LOT to do with the ocean.

COSTUMING: I’m costuming three different dance pieces this term.
