Just a little selection of the seemingly endless events happening this week at Bennington. When I’ve receive Facebook invites to over 30 events all happening on campus in the next three weeks, I know that it is officially the beginning of the end of term. Click on the squares above to learn more. I’ll update with new events next week.

[Part 8 of the Posters at Bennington Series]

One of the most common questions I’m asked on tours is “What is there to do at Bennington?” I know that before I came here I couldn’t for the life of me imagine what one would do all day at a small liberal arts school in Vermont. But when I visited campus I realized that everywhere I looked, the walls were plastered with posters advertising clubs, performances, discussions, lectures, films, and more.

So I thought, for those of you who can’t visit campus just yet, that I’d start a weekly series where I showcase some of the posters around campus over the past year or two. All photo credits go to the folks behind the Bennington College Flickr!

“Also at the beginning, because modern dance was not very well accepted and was thought ugly by people who were devoted to classical ballet, the first years of conflict were rather bitter. So we pushed modern dance more — more than we would have later on, perhaps — because we had to make the point… The story was that we were thought of as a nudist colony by people in town, because here we were dancing in flesh-colored leotards — practically naked after the tutus of the ballet — all of which was pretty daring for the times.”

Recognize anyone on Google today? My friend Fizza mentioned something about the Google doodle being Bennington-esque so I decided to check it out. A tribute to Martha Graham, modern dance pioneer? Er, yes please. I’ll take two to go.  Reblog if this makes you want to dance at Bennington.
