When it’s icy out, which it has been for the past week, skating is compulsory. Here I am on commons lawn busting a move with my BFF Julia H.:

As far as rollerskating goes, I haven’t seen much of it done around campus… but we do have a Rollerama event every term, which involves 500 pairs of rolling skates, an expansive hardwood floor, and a disco ball. Madeleine made a great post about it here.
Happy skating!

Don’t worry, you are definitely not the only one. But that never stops anyone from going! Here is an image/link to a viedo from Rollerama in the 1990’s that still happens every term.

Last night I sat for a couple of hours at the library front desk helping my friend Stevie make a playlist of YouTube videos of 90s movies and TV shows to project on the wall while we skate around at Rollerama.
We’ve certainly remembered a lot of classics (such as Nickelodeon shows and Leonardo DiCaprio movies) and got good suggestions from people in the library who interrupted our highly important work to check out books, but do any of you readers have any ideas of some 90s pop culture essentials?

Every term we have a very special tradition: late at night we dress in our finest neon spandex, strap on some roller skates, and enter Greenwall, a giant auditorium/multi-use space that just happens to feature a disco ball for special occasions like these. It’s Rollerama, a night where you discover some people on campus are geniuses on roller skates and the rest of us fall down a lot, often to the sounds of a live band (last fall was Harry and the Potters). This year’s theme is Skating to the ’90s and it just so happens I found this amazing footage of Rollerama back in 1997 if anyone is looking for some inspiration…
